In that post I just wrote my experiences and nothing else. We were to discuss on how hackers get control of your blog and some tips for securing your blog / site. In this article we will discuss on how hackers can get control of your blog / site or if you had been already hacked some day, how could they have done that. We will cover it all!

How The Hackers Could Get Control Over Your Blog?

1.) Weak Password Can Be The Reason!

Most of us prefer easy passwords which we can remember easily. But we forget that hackers can also retrieve it easily. Some of us use dictionary words. Using dictionary words as passwords is equal to not using a password!Hackers can hack into your blog using benefits of your weak password. Using brute force attack or some other password hacking tools, hackers can easily change your site password and get control over it. If you use a dictionary password, the chances are that hackers will get password quickly if they use any softwares for hacking.

2.) Outdated Scripts / Plugins

Many times it has been found that hackers get control of any site or blog using their outdated scripts and / or plugins. If you use WordPress, make sure you use the latest version. If use some old version, you are not safe! So always use the latest version available. Also don’t forget to update your plugins regularly. Whenever you see that updates are available, just update all your plugins quickly!

3.) Did Your Blog Design / Theme Got It Hacked?

It’s possible for hackers to bring your site under their control by using your themes. They can simply use any weaknesses or faulty coding in the theme for that purpose. Suppose a theme has some coding which is not correct, it can change the entire site settings. If the code is incomplete, the hackers can get control of your blog. So make sure the theme you use is proper. Also ensure that all links in your theme are good and there are no links to unknown sites or harmful sites. Many a times such links will be encoded, so you will have to decode it using some of the decoders available online. You can use Otto Destruct to decode the encoded codes.

4.) Improper File Permissions

Many times we don’t pay proper attention to our blog’s file permissions. Improper permissions can land your blog in trouble. File permissions is one of the many important things that one needs to take care of. Always keep your important directories well protected and use proper permissions. If you’re unable to set the permissions or don’t know what to do, ask your host for help. They might help you out surely and easily.

5.) WordPress Comments Form Or Shall We Call It As WordPress Hacking Form?

I think this can be one of the reasons that can get your WordPress blog hacked. Some days back I was checking comments.php file of my theme. In many places noticed “Please don’t make any changes here!” I didn’t do any changes to the coding! Have you changed any such codes? This might change the Geography of your blog! Restore the original code. Always follow such warning codes as they are never wrong.
